The scorpion is both an arthropod (with an exoskeleton), and an arachnid (eight legs). In addition to eight little legs, scorpions have a very long tail that curls over the top. Their long tails also have a stinger that is full of dangerous venom! The fact that scorpion venom can kill humans is an enough reason for these creatures to be feared. Their stingers can be particularly dangerous for children, the elderly, and those individuals who are chemically-sensitive.

Scorpions are commonly found in the desert, making them a massive problem in certain areas of the world, including the Arabian Gulf countries. Although only approximately ¼ of scorpions have venom that is very dangerous, the venom from specific species can be toxic, and even deadly. In fact, at least 1,000 adults and children die from complications of scorpion bites every year.

Nocturnal creatures, they prefer temperatures of less than 38 degrees Celsius (100 degrees Fahrenheit). In extreme heat, they seek out dark, cool, and damp places to nest. So it’s no wonder the areas in and around our homes are so attractive to them. Scorpions can prove difficult to find and hard to completely rid from their habitat without professional pest control help.

Eradicating a scorpions’ infestation and keep them from coming back requires an aggressive and persistent combination of actions that include changing their environment, removing those currently in the home and proper and repeated use of pesticides.

Boecker® pest control professionals possess the experience and tools necessary to provide convenient and stress-free scorpion removal. Our trained and certified experts will inspect the outside of your home for objects that would provide an inviting home to these dangerous creatures.
